Aiming to blend design, art, and nature in a whimsical and organic – yet utilitarian way, this seat is a nod to my early focus on creating unique outdoor environments that not only seamlessly connect the indoors and outdoors, but also impact the way people experience the world. The use of organic materials, such as a teak root ball, as well as re purposed man-made resources integrated in unexpected ways, highlights the dichotomy of our relationship with nature in our everyday, modern lives.
I realize the event and bench I've recently posted has piqued the interest of some -- because you're sending me messages asking about it. So, I wanted to give some context and tell you what it's about.
I was recently honored to take part in "Take a Seat" by the Florida chapter of IFDA (International Furnishings and Design Association). Essentially, they have hand-picked designers to create five seats (whether it be a chair, bench or what have you) to then auction at a charitable fun event (Glam-a-THON), benefiting the Broward Health Foundation and "be used to provide funding for women battling breast cancer, mammograms, diagnostic testing and special assistance for medication, wigs and other ancillary items at the Lillian S. Wells Women's Health Center at Broward Medical Center and the Lisa Boccard Fund at Broward Health Coral Springs.
You can come be part of this amazing cause TODAY (Thursday, October 13) 6-8pm at ALLIED DESIGN CENTER (3484 NE 12th Ave, Oakland Park, Florida 33334) and bid on my bench, as well as the other designers' seats -- and other items being auctioned. Tickets at $25 in advance, $30 at the door. For tickets and donations, go to: https://www.kintera.org/AutoGen/Simple/Donor.asp?ievent=1165259&en=5oIzGIPjG4JIJSNmF3LFJONwFfKDKQPvFbIIJXODJoIZG
